Fire water supply to tunnels
One of the most important tasks of the second track is to ensure that the track is modern and safe, while increasing the flow of people and goods. Despite all the development of systems for the safe operation of rail traffic, there is still the possibility of incidents. Among the possible emergency scenarios are fires.
To provide fire water for the new Divača-Koper line, five water storage tanks are planned on the surface at locations above the Lokev (T1), Beka (T2), Tinjan (T4), Mlinarji (T7) and Škofije (T8) tunnels. Each water storage tank consists of one or two water cells with a total capacity of 200 m3 and a reinforcement cell. After construction, the water storage tanks shall be backfilled, except at the entrance, where an external façade shall be constructed, the necessary handling areas shall be provided and landscaping shall be carried out. A DN 125 hydrant network runs from the water storage tank through the surface to the manhole, where it enters a vertical borehole leading to a distribution niche in the tunnels. From this point, the wet hydrant network is distributed to the hydrants in the tunnels at a distance of 125 metres between them and to the hydrants at the tunnel portals and the tunnel exit pipes.
The filling of the hydrants will be carried out by tanker trucks.
