Rescue drill on Second track
On Friday, 10 November 2023, the 47th Meeting of the Mining Rescue Units of Slovenia and the Mining Rescue Exercise entitled “ACCIDENT IN THE DIVAČA-KOPER SECOND TRACK TUNNELS” took place at the construction site of the second track Divača – Koper.
In the morning, a consultation for the professional public was organised in Dekani, in the container complex, where speakers presented the project of the second track Divača – Koper, talked about the challenges of the Inspectorate for Mining and Natural Resources in the context of the reorganisation of the ministries, and about the consultation of representatives of the European national mining authorities and administrations. They also discussed the development of preventive measures against pillar strikes, the floods in the Upper Savinja Valley and the responsiveness of the protection and rescue system, and the intervention in the Vranjedolski cave.
The nationwide rescue exercise simulated the rescue of people and material goods in the event of an accident caused by a major earthquake that short-circuited electrical installations, leading to a fire and injuring workers who were working in the tunnel at the time of the earthquake.
The purpose of the exercise was to test the operation and coordination of certain legally responsible factors in the event of an accident in the construction of the Second Track tunnels or in any other mining company in Slovenia. The exercise was also intended to test the professional competence of the mining rescue units and their coordination with the protection and rescue system of the Republic of Slovenia.
The rescue units of Velenje Coal Mine, Trbovlje – Hrastnik Mine, Idrija Mercury Heritage Management Centre and Petrol Geotherm, d.o.o. participated in the rescue drill. Representatives of the Mining Inspectorate, Civil Protection, Fire Brigades and medical personnel were also present.
The meeting of the Slovenian Mining Rescue Units was organised by 2TDK, Project Development Company, d.o.o., in cooperation with the contractors of the construction works on the Second Track Divača – Koper project, Kolektor, Yapi Merkezi, Ozaltin and the Inspectorate of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Slovenia.
