A New Step Toward the Final Completion of the Second Track
A New Step Toward the Final Completion of the Second Track
In the area of the Dekani substation, the temporary switch connection between the old track and the so-called spur track leading to the Port of Koper was removed. First, the track circuit of the switch connection was dismantled, followed by the removal of the switch on the old track. After its removal, the track bed and ballast were graded, and the old track was restored to its final configuration. Next, the switch on the spur track was removed, and in its place, a track was laid on the track bed, which was aligned and leveled to its final position. This work represents one of the steps in the transition from the temporary traffic arrangement to the final configuration of the second Divača–Koper track.
The spur track is an approximately 1.2-kilometer-long section between the Koper Freight Station and the ENP Dekani area, which was built back in 2019. It represents the first section of the second-track route; until now, it has also been connected to the existing Divača–Koper railway line via a switch connection in the ENP Dekani area. This arrangement allowed for more flexible train traffic management and increased the capacity of the existing line.
With the removal of the temporary switch connection, the former temporary traffic arrangement in this area is being discontinued, and the siding is being incorporated into the final configuration of the new second track toward Koper.
