Cohesion in practice: students learn about the Second Track project and its financing
The company 2TDK hosted students from the Bežigrad Secondary Vocational and Technical School, who wanted to learn more about the Second Track project directly from the investor. The students are participating in the national School of Cohesion programme, through which they learn about the importance of European funding and major development projects for Slovenia.
Special emphasis during the discussion was placed on both the technical and financial aspects of the project. The students were interested in how the construction of one of the country’s largest infrastructure projects is progressing and what role non-repayable European funds—particularly Cohesion Fund resources—play in it. To date, the total amount of allocated non-repayable European funding for the Second Track project amounts to €390 million. 2TDK obtained €80 million from the Cohesion Fund for the construction of the Gabrovica and Vinjan viaducts and the Škofije tunnel (T8).
During the discussion, the students also learned about the challenges involved in managing such a large-scale project, what is required for the successful acquisition of European funding, and how the project’s financial structure is being finalised.
