Friday's storms also caused extensive damage at construction sites for the second track

1. September 2025

Heavy rain on Friday caused numerous disruptions along the entire route of the second track and led to a temporary halt in work at some construction sites.

The situation was most critical in the Glinščica Valley, where landslide remediation work is underway above the Lokev Tunnel (T1), as the terrain is extremely unstable and any additional rainfall could cause further problems. On the other side of the Glinščica viaduct, the construction pit for the ventilation station was completely flooded. This is precisely the most critical section of the second-track route, as the most intensive work is taking place here.

Heavy rainfall has also caused extensive damage to some of the gravel and paved access roads leading to the construction sites and on the slopes above the tunnel portals, as significant subsidence and landslides have occurred in some areas.

During the construction of the second track, a large number of culverts were built to ensure stormwater drainage; many of them were blocked with rocks on Friday, as the rainwater carried large amounts of debris down the steep slopes. As a result, the culverts were significantly clogged in some sections, further hindering water drainage.

Repair work has been underway all weekend and continues today, while the extent of the damage caused by Friday’s heavy rain is still being assessed in certain areas.
