The Second Track Project at Connecting Europe Days 2026 in Brussels
Connecting Europe Days 2026, the premier European event in the field of transportation and mobility, is taking place in Brussels from September 29 to October 1. The event brings together representatives from European institutions, member states, financial institutions, the business community, and the transportation sector to discuss the future of European transportation infrastructure—from rail, roads, and aviation to maritime transport and sustainable mobility.
The Divača–Koper Second Track project was also presented at the event. Nina Kolenc, head of the finance and accounting department at 2TDK, gave a brief presentation on the project, highlighting the importance of the new rail link and its broader benefits for Slovenia and the European transportation network.
Although the 27-kilometer stretch of new railway track may not seem like much at first glance, its European significance is far greater. The line lies along three European rail corridors and eliminates one of the key bottlenecks in rail access to the Port of Koper. Among the project’s key impacts, Kolenc highlighted in particular that the new rail connection will enable nearly three times the volume of rail freight traffic and 2.4 times as many trains. The project will thus make a significant contribution to increasing the capacity, reliability, and competitiveness of rail transport, as well as to shifting freight from road to rail.
