Geological and geomechanical surveys are being conducted in the Glinščica Valley for the left track

10. September 2026

Geological and geomechanical surveys are underway along the route of the future parallel left-hand track between Divača and Koper in the Glinščica Valley. Geologists are using exploratory boreholes to examine the composition and properties of the soil and bedrock. The samples collected are sent to a laboratory, where their geological and geomechanical characteristics will be analyzed in greater detail.

Exploratory boreholes are being drilled along a section of the left-track route where an approximately 80-meter-long tunnel is planned—the shortest on the parallel left-track route. The results of the surveys will provide designers with more accurate data on subsurface conditions and serve as an important basis for the planning and construction of the tunnel.

From a construction standpoint, the Glinščica Valley is one of the more challenging sections of the route; therefore, a thorough understanding of the geological and geomechanical conditions is crucial even during the pre-construction phase. The data obtained will enable more precise planning of technical solutions and construction methods.
