For a quieter life along the tracks: installation of a noise and vibration mitigation system
As in the Škofije tunnel (T8), which runs beneath the settlements of Dekani and Plavje, a special noise and vibration mitigation system has now also been installed under the settlement of Lokev.
Most of the Second Track Divača–Koper runs away from populated areas, but at the first and last tunnels the railway is closer to settlements. Using a special device called Vibroscan, which simulated train traffic, measurements were carried out immediately after the installation of the concrete inner lining in the tunnels. The results showed that in some locations the limit values for secondary noise were exceeded.
Therefore, a mass-spring anti-vibration system (Mass-Spring System) was installed in the Lokev and Škofije tunnels to ensure that the railway infrastructure has as little impact as possible on the quality of life of nearby residents.
The system operates on the principle of a floating slab, separated from the rigid base by elastic elements such as rubber bearings, polyurethane pads, and steel springs. The installation of polyurethane pads on the floor and side surfaces of the track is shown in the video, and they are placed beneath the track. These elements act as vibration dampers, absorbing vibrations generated by passing trains and preventing their transmission to the tunnel structure or surrounding buildings.
