Half of the railway line already laid with track
On the route of the Second Track between Divača and Koper, 13,656 metres of track have now been laid, meaning that half of the 27.1-kilometre-long railway line has already been equipped with track.
Currently, track is being laid on two sections: in the longest tunnel along the route, the Lokev tunnel (T1), and in the Tinjan tunnel (T4). Track has already been installed in the Škofije (T8), Mlinarji (T7), Osp (T5–6), and Stepani (T3) tunnels, as well as on the Gabrovica and Vinjan viaducts. In tunnels and on viaducts, slab track is being installed, while on a small part of the open alignment, conventional ballasted track is being used.
In the coming months, work will focus primarily on completing track installation on the remaining sections and on implementing technical systems, including railway electrification, tunnel power supply systems (equipment for transformer stations and power cables), signalling, safety and telecommunications systems, emergency lighting systems in tunnels, a safety system with video surveillance, and a remote monitoring system. Progress in track installation represents an important step toward the goal of making the entire Divača–Koper railway line operational for rail traffic by March 2026.
