Railway construction work has also begun on Section 1
In Slovenia’s longest tunnel, the 6,714-meter-long Lokev Tunnel, the first operational phase of the track superstructure on a rigid ballast bed has begun. With railway work already proceeding at an accelerated pace on Section 2, work has now also begun on the section of the line from Divača to Črni Kal.
Along the entire route, it will be necessary to construct the track superstructure and track fixtures, install the traction network, and install signaling and telecommunications equipment, video and security systems, mechanical and electrical equipment, power supply systems, etc. On Section 2 (Črni Kal – Koper), more than 7 kilometers of track have already been successfully laid, and contractors for Lot 3 are now accelerating their activities on the other side of the line as well.
The simultaneous execution of sonstruction and railway works enables faster progress on the Second Track project. Simultaneous execution enables optimal use of time and resources and reduces the need for additional delays between individual construction phases. While final construction work is underway in the tunnels on Section 1, track laying on the rigid ballast bed and the installation of the remaining necessary equipment will begin simultaneously. In the coming months, construction and railway works will thus proceed intensively at multiple locations simultaneously.
