The first of two ventilators has arrived at the ventilator station
The first of two exceptionally powerful fans has arrived at the fan station on the second-track route between the Lokev (T1) and Beka (T2) tunnels; these fans will form the core of the ventilation and fire safety system in the longest tunnel section of the Divača–Koper rail link.
This is one of the largest and most powerful fans for railway tunnels in the region, and it was delivered to the site via special transport from Spain. The second fan will arrive at the construction site in the coming days, after which both fans will be installed and integrated into the ventilation station system. The company Riko will handle the transport and installation of the fans.
The fans will be installed in a fan station located between the Glinščica Viaduct and the Beka Tunnel (T2). Each fan has a diameter of 3.5 meters; together, they weigh approximately 17 metric tons, and their airflow reaches 250 m³/s. They are powered by a 560-kW motor, making them among the largest systems of their kind in this part of Europe. They are designed to operate under extreme conditions and can run for at least two hours at temperatures up to 400 °C in the event of a fire.
Their key function is not only to ensure continuous ventilation but, above all, to provide active fire protection. In the event of an emergency, they create positive pressure that prevents smoke from spreading into evacuation routes, thereby enabling the safe evacuation of passengers and access for emergency response teams.
The longest tunnel section on the second-track route is formed by the connection between the Lokev (T1) and Beka (T2) tunnels via the enclosed Glinščica viaduct, which together form approximately 13 kilometers of continuous tunnel connection. Given this length and complexity, effective ventilation is one of the key safety systems for the entire project.
