The track on a rigid base has been completed in the Mlinarji Tunnel
Following the Škofije Tunnel (T8)—the first tunnel on the route of the second track coming from the Koper direction—track has now also been laid in the Mlinarji Tunnel (T7). This means that nearly 5 kilometers of track have now been laid on a rigid subgrade in the tunnels along the route of the second track.
Following the completion of the rigid base track in Tunnels T8 and T7, work will now begin on laying the rigid base track on the open section of the route between the tunnels and on the Vinjan Viaduct. The rigid-bed track is a modern track design that is successfully used worldwide and is the most optimal solution for construction in tunnels and on bridge structures.
The rigid-bed track must be laid with millimeter precision, as subsequent corrections are very demanding and time-consuming. Installing such a system requires highly skilled contractors, precise planning, and continuous quality control.
The RHEDA 2000 system is being installed on the second-track route; it is one of the most common types of rigid-bed track in the world. First, both rails, which are mounted in bi-blocks, are precisely positioned in terms of alignment and elevation on the load-distribution slab. Transverse and longitudinal reinforcement is placed beneath the blocks. Finally, the space beneath and between the blocks is filled with concrete, which permanently stabilizes the entire track structure.
