2TDK has submitted an application for an operating permit

27. May 2026

The Divača–Koper railway line became operational in March, and today an application for an operating permit was submitted to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning.

The procedure for obtaining the operating permit includes verifying that all conditions for the safe use of the railway infrastructure have been met, including completed construction works, geotechnical measures, safety systems, and compliance with environmental and technical requirements.

The operating permit is a necessary condition for the start of further procedures, followed by the issuance of the permit for the commencement of operations, which will enable the full integration of the new railway line into the rail transport system.

Construction of the Second Track Divača–Koper began in 2021 and has in recent years represented one of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects in Slovenia. During construction, numerous karst caves were discovered, with the largest even requiring bridging structures. The project also faced several other challenges, the most significant being slope instability in the Glinščica Valley, which required extraordinary engineering measures. Despite these challenges, the Second Track project has now taken an important step towards the start of regular operation of the new railway line.
