The management of 2TDK met with the coordinator of the Mediterranean Corridor

24. October 2025

A meeting of the Mediterranean Corridor working group titled “Cross-border connections and related administrative and operational issues” is taking place in Ljubljana. The coordinator Mathieu Grosch was also met by Matej Oset, CEO of 2TDK, and Marko Brezigar, Director of the company.

The meeting was attended by representatives of various European infrastructure operators and institutions, including the company 2TDK, which is presenting the Second Track project. The project is in its final construction phase and will significantly improve the connection between the country’s interior and the Port of Koper. The new railway line will also eliminate a bottleneck on the Mediterranean, Baltic-Adriatic, and Western Balkans–Eastern Mediterranean core TEN-T corridors. This is a project through which Slovenia demonstrates its ability to successfully manage large infrastructure projects even under challenging global conditions, which have brought numerous challenges, while the project has not exceeded its budget over five years of construction.

At the meeting with the coordinator, 2TDK emphasized that completing a fully double-track section between Divača and Koper still requires the construction of a second parallel track. A double-track railway goes beyond a national framework—it is a project of European importance, with strong cross-border economic, environmental, and transport effects, as it connects three core TEN-T corridors and is used as a key maritime route by six Central European countries and Western Balkan states. In addition, it represents a transport bridge between Western Europe and the Balkans, and is also an important element of solidarity transport corridors for Ukraine.
